Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune condition that is typically developed at a young age and diagnosed early into childhood. There are instances of adults becoming diagnosed with Type 1 later in life.

This form of diabetes is different than Type 2 because it is not a matter of decreased insulin sensitivity, your body actually does not make enough insulin.

Type 1 has its own ups and downs but the goal is that it remains well managed and you become so efficient at how to monitor and address your blood sugars that it becomes less of a disruption to your life.

What a perfect world that would be.

For the majority with Type 1 Diabetes, you are always thinking about your health. Being prepared with snacks, always. How much insulin is in your pump? When did you do your last infusion site? What is your blood sugar? Did you bolus? The list goes on and on. There is SO much to think about!

The hard truth is that without being on top of your diabetes, you are at risk for very serious complications. But it can be exhausting! And sometimes, things are not explained very well to you and it can be confusing to know if you’re even taking your insulin correctly.

Have you heard about our diabetes class?

Bring In a registered dietitian.

You may have worked with a registered dietitian once or twice before. They may have helped you recognize how to count your carbs or discussed with you the hypoglycemia protocol. But have you ever considered a dietitian as your teammate? Someone who helps you live your best life and easily manage your diabetes.

Lynn Eaton is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. She has so much knowledge and loves working side-by-side her clients to meet present and long-term health goals. Lynn is not a typical dietitian who sees you for 20min then sends you on your way. She cares to get to know what is going on in your life and be your partner in crime rather than just another healthcare provider.
