Exploring Self Compassion- Support Group

What is the point…

Do you find yourself frustrated and discouraged by that ever-present inner critic?

Would you acknowledge that, yeah, you’re pretty hard on yourself, but you don’t know how to turn off the faucet of negative self-talk?

Or maybe you think the way you talk to yourself is perfectly justified, but you find yourself plagued by anxiety, depression, anger and self-hatred?

What self compassion is not

  • Taking it too easy on yourself, and following every internal whim.

  • The same as self-esteem, or feeling good about myself.

What self compassion is…

  • Self-compassion is not feeling better about yourself, but relating to yourself kindly when you feel your worst.

  • Self-compassion is not doing whatever you want, but asking yourself, what do I really need?

  • Self-compassion is relating to yourself with the same kindness as you would a good friend, or even a neutral acquaintance.

The Self Compassion Group

About

If the above resonated with you, or you’re looking for another way to help get out of the spiral you’ve been in for years with the negative self-talk, this group could be a great opportunity to help you re-wire and do things differently.

You could be in this group in addition to individual therapy. You could be in this group and it Is the only form of therapy you’re receiving right now. Both are okay, we’re here to bring you the education, skills, and tools you need to address self compassion in a new light.

This group is for women and men,  ages 17 and up, who wish to develop a more positive relationship with themselves. Whether you find yourself wrestling with disordered eating patterns, academic stress, perfectionism, or general patterns of critical self-talk, this group is for you. Together with an intentional, supportive community, we will take six weeks to explore the following:

  1. Gain clarity on your patterns of self-talk and factors that contribute to chronic self-criticism.

  2. Understand what self-compassion is, how it's different from self-esteem, and why it's important.

  3. Develop strategies for improving self-compassion and resiliency.

The group leader

Meet Sarah Nonnenmacher, she is the creator of the Self Compassion Group and will be leading each 90min group for 6 weeks. Sarah has been a therapist for over 8 years and self compassion has always been something she has found clients to struggle with on some degree. Whether or not it feels like the primary problem, she has always found a way to improve client symptoms and expression when she addresses their sense of self compassion. Thus, this group was formed after her years of experience and training in self compassion so she can help others address this problem in hope that it makes it easier to improve mental health in all other areas.
