Meet Emma
(She/Her)
Hello! My name is Emma and I work with folks from adolescents to adults battling eating disorders and disordered eating. My philosophies are aligned with how Bamboo Nutrition as a whole practices, non-diet, health at every size and a food freedom approach to eating disorder recovery! I am also a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, which means I have done more specific training in how to help those without an eating disorder, feel more confident in their food decisions and experience more positive and normalized eating.
I am a foodie through and through. My first degree was in food science then I went back to school for dietetics at the University of Missouri. After finishing my education I moved back to my hometown of Franklin, Tennessee to start my professional career in the field of eating disorders. I have worked in the outpatient eating disorder setting through a hospital and at a Residential Treatment Facility in Cordova, TN. I still missed the outpatient world, however, so here I am! I am so thankful for this opportunity to continue to provide help to those who need it in this setting.
Some fun facts about me: I live with my fluffy, black kitty- Castiel. I love the color blue, have a love for book series such as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, and enjoy traveling when I can.
I am still living in Tennessee, therefore I only see clients over video. I do my best to ensure your sessions with me feel comfortable, familiar and I will work closely with the rest of your treatment team from afar. I am in network with BCBS, Cigna and Aetna. If I am not in network with your insurance, I can provide you with a superbill to submit for reimbursement. For more information, please visit our Rates & Insurance page.
Emma’s Specialties
Emma loves working with people from all walks of life that seek to be gently challenged with their relationship with food. Coming from working as a residential treatment center dietitian, she has helped individuals when they were in some of the darkest places of an eating disorder. She has training in how to provide trauma-informed care and is accustomed to working as a strong member of the professional eating disorder treatment team.
Emma understands that the training, learning, and improving skills never stops in the field of eating disorders. She continuously is receiving professional supervision, staying up-to-date with research for treatment via webinars, trainings, and collaboration with other professionals.
Emma often works with clients who have ARFID or rumination disorder as well. These are two types of eating disorders that require more specialized training. Emma may also offer meal therapy to clients who may need this additional support.
Emma’s Nutrition Philosophy
Food is more than just what we need to survive, it is what provides our life with zest and experiences with others. Food freedom gives us the ability to truly enjoy food in any setting, which is what I strive to provide for my clients. As Julia Child would put it: "A party without cake is just a meeting."
